MY YOUTHFUL YEARS, SPENT DURING THE TWENTIES and early Thirties were more or less routine. At the age of eleven, you were given a scholastic test. This was so determine whether you continue at the elementary school until fourteen, at which "mature" age you finished your schooling and went to work, or had sufficient potential to warrant being transferred to a central school or grammar school. To my joy, I passed this test and began to attend Mile End Central School in Myrdle Street.
